About us

The Barn building on our property was left empty at the end of our horses’ lives. Not wanting to have the building empty we eventually decided to expand our home-based art and photography business which had been housed for years in our much smaller studio into this great new space. After months of renovations ART IN THE BARN GALLERY was born. We went on, to further renovate space to house Gabriel’s full service, in house Photography Studio. We both have a long history of working in Victoria as well as years of experience in our professions and work spanning Canada and other countries. It is really fabulous to have such a wonderful place to showcase our work. While we predominantly display our own art and photography, we also occasionally host other talented people with locally made art work for display and sale which includes pottery, jewelry, sculpture, fiber art, metal work and stone work. Additionally, we keep busy by proudly participate in other demonstrations and shows around Victoria and open up our studios for the local studio tours.  (please note this has not happened since the onset of Covid 19 but we look forward to participating again soon)

Jacqui Austin
Artist

Jacqui has enjoyed a long career as an artist, working in all medium and many types of subject matter, which include wildlife, portraits, landscape, pets and animals and specializes in large format works. Recent projects have included landscapes from a trip part way across Canada. Painting from a woodland studio in Saanich on Vancouver Island and displaying her work in a converted horse barn this mainly self-taught artist will soon venture into sculpture pieces.

The evolution of her work is very important to her. In a recent interview, she stated the most important thing is to impress yourself with your art and that the next painting is always the most important one. Jacqui is currently accepting commission work and shows art pieces and limited edition prints on line or at ART IN THE BARN in Saanich on Vancouver Island BC.

Gabriel Taschereau

Photographer

I was first introduced to photography in 1971. Ever since then it has been a lifetime passion of mine.  Over the years, I have developed a style that is pure to what I see combining art and reality.  I am focused in capturing timeless moments. I have cultured a keen eye for great composition of my images witexcellent processing technique.

Whether for your personal moments or for artistic photography I will accomplish the creative story telling in the images I produce.  My prints are sold across Canada and admired by many.  Whether your choice is edgy, dramatic, daring or conventional, the images I shoot will be the best images for you.

In the studio or on location I shoot with emotion.

My philosophy is simple:  I know that my reputation is only as good my last shoot, therefore I have to excel at every image I create.  On the set, I am in total control. While processing the images, my imagination takes ight.
